Napoleon Bonaparte: The Lion

Napoleon Bonaparte was born as Napoleone di Buonaparte in Corsica, a French island, to a relatively modest family from the minor nobility. Napoleon was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution. He seized the new opportunities presented by the Revolution and rapidly rose through the ranks of the military. Through successful campaigns, he eventually became the Emperor of the French and the King of Italy. He dominated European and global affairs for more than a decade, and his wars and campaigns are studied at military schools worldwide.

Napoleon, The Winner Attitude

Napoleon has Rahu (North Node of the Moon) in the 3rd house of willpower conjunct the planet of control and manipulation, Pluto. Rahu was in the lunar mansion of Ketu opposing Rahu empowering the willpower even more. Pluto is in the lunar mansion Uttara Ashadha, the star of unchallengeable victory.

Napoleon had a hypnotic effect on people and was able to bend the strongest leaders to his will. He could rapidly give a series of complex commands to his subordinates while still having all the major units and placements in mind like a chess master completely in control.

Napoleon has his Saturn as a yogakaraka, a planet of luck and power in the 10th house of career. Saturn rules 4th house of homeland and 5th house of the mind. Saturn is conjunct Mercury ruling the 9th house of fortune and 12th house of foreign lands. Moon is also aspecting it’s own 10th house of career protecting his career.

He is able to use his mental intelligence and art of war to expand his home territory to foreign lands with brains and luck. He has extreme focus on his career with extraordinary luck in his revolutions and war campaigns. He maintained strict and efficient work habits and is able to prioritize what was needed to be done.

His Moon is in the lunar mansion of Uttara Ashadha, the star of unchallengeable victory. He has great affluence and leadership. Napoleon’s whole life is about winning. He cheated at cards even though he still repaid for the losses. He simply had to win at everything that he attempted. As he once said, “History is written by the winners” and he meant what he said.

Italian Campaign and Egyptian Expeditions

In 1797, Transiting Rahu and Saturn were in the 9th house of fortune where Saturn is a planet of power for him. Transiting Jupiter was in the 5th house blessing his planets in the 9th house and his Natal Jupiter in the 1st house.

In 1796 to 1797, Bonaparte left Paris to take command of the Army of Italy and went to defeat the forces of Piedmont during the Montenotte Campaign and he knocked Pidemont out of the war in 2 weeks. The French triumph at Rivoli led to the collapse of the Austrian ally position in Italy.

In 1798 to 1799, several planets including Jupiter, Venus, Rahu, Saturn were all aspecting his 12th house expanding his foreign expeditions.

France’s naval power was not strong enough to confront British Royal Navy so Napoleon wanted to establish a French presence in the Middle East to link up with Tipu Sultan, a muslim enemy of the British in India. He eluded Royal Navy’s pursuit and fought the Battle of Shubra Khit against the Mamluks who were the Egypt’s ruling military caste. The victory boosted French army’s morale and gained temporary control in Egypt even though there were repeated uprisings.

Emperor of the French, King of Italy

In 1804 December 2 in Rahu/Mars period, Transiting Rahu was in the 4th house of homeland conjunct his Natal Moon aspecting Transiting Mars in the 10th house of fame. Transiting Jupiter was also aspecting the 10th house. Transiting Mars even though it was debilitated was slowing down gaining strength for a retrograde in the 10th house of career.

Napoleon’s coronation took place on 2 December, 1804 as the Emperor of France. Two separate crowns were brought for the ceremony, one recalling the Roman Empire and another a replica of Charlemagne’s crown.

In 1805 May 26 at the very start of Jupiter period, Transiting Jupiter was in the 2nd house aspecting the 10th house of career. Transiting Rahu was in the 3rd house aspecting Natal Sun in the 11th house, giving him authority. Transiting power planet Saturn was in the 12th house of foreign powers.

Napoleon was also crowned King of Italy, with the Iron Crown of Lombardy, at the Cathedral of Milan on 26 May 1805.

Last “Hundred Days”

In 1815 February in Rahu/Venus period, Venus was conjunct Ketu the significator of losses. On February 26, Transiting Jupiter was in the 12th house of exile opposing Transiting Venus and Mercury in the 6th house of enemies where Venus is exalted, giving him great enemies that he could not overcome causing him to go into exile. Transiting Ketu in the 3rd house of willpower aspects his Natal Sun in the 11th house and took away his willpower and commanding authority.

Napoleon was separated from his wife and son and had to escape to Elba on this day with 700 men. On March 13, Great Britain, Russia, Austria, and Prussia each pledged 150,000 men to end his rule. Napoleon arrived in Paris on March 20 and governed for a period called the Hundred Days where he gathered 200,000 armed forces to defend. Napoleon forces lost and he returned to Paris to find out that his people has turned against him. He demanded asylum from the British Captain Frederick Maitland on HMS Bellerophon on 15 July 1815.

Exile at Saint Helena

In 1821 May in the last days of Jupiter/Rahu period, Rahu was being in the 3rd house of life force and disposited to Jupiter in the 1st house is inherently linked to him and gives himself problems. Rahu was also in the lunar mansion ruled by Ketu while Ketu as significator of losses is conjunct his chart ruler Venus, losing his own life. Venus is in the lunar mansion Ardra nakshatra gives him a sorrowful ending.

On May 5, Transiting Rahu was aspecting his Natal Ketu and Venus giving him problem to himself. Transiting Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Pluto were all in his 6th house of disease while Jupiter was strong in it’s own 6th house worsened the disease even more. Transiting Mars ruling both 2nd and 7th maraka houses of death was aspecting Venus his chart ruler as well as the 1st house of himself. Transiting Moon went over his Ketu and Venus and triggered his departure.

Britain kept Napoleon on the island of Saint Helena in the Atlantic Ocean. He was moved to Longwood House in 1815 whereby the house was dilapidated and the location was damp, windswept and unhealthy. The Times published and insinuated that Britain was trying to hasten Napoleon’s death. His health was declining rapidly until he died on May 5, 1821. His last words were, “France, l’armée, tête d’armée, Joséphine” (“France, army, head of the army, Joséphine”).

Napoleon, Lions and Dogs
