Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a prolific composer in the Classical era. He was born in Salzburg, Austria and showed prodigious ability from childhood. By the age of 5, he was already competent on keyboard and violin and started performing for European royalty. He has composed numerous symphonies, concertos, and operas, including portions of the Requiem which was unfinished upon his death. Ludwig van Beethoven has composed his own early works in the shadow of Mozart. Joseph Haydn has said to Mozart’s father “I tell you before God, and as an honest man, your son is the greatest composer known to me by person and repute, he has taste and what is more the greatest skill in composition.”

Background

Mozart has malefic Mars in the 11^th house of eldest siblings and the 11^th house ruler Mercury is in the 6^th house of difficulties conjunct 2 malefics Sun and Saturn. He was the youngest of 7 children, of which 5 of his elder siblings died in infancy. His only eldest sister was Maria Anna Mozart nicknamed “Nannerl”.

Mars ruling the fortunate 4^th house of mother and 9^th house of father sits in the great 11^th house of gains is a yogakaraka planet (planet of luck and fortune) for Mozart but in the difficult nakshatra (lunar mansion) of Ardra. Sun as the significator of father is also his chart ruler.

His mother was taken ill when Mozart was in Paris and she died in 1778 July. His father Leopold Mozart as a minor composer and an experienced teacher was the engine behind Mozart’s talents, education, inspiration and opportunities. Leopold was a dedicated teacher to his children and had a close relationship with Wolfgang Mozart. Leopold’s death 1787 May was devastating to both Wolfang and Nannerl as they lost their main pillar of support.

This stellium of planets are all in the nakshatra ruled by the Moon in 4^th house debilitated but with directional strength (dig bala). Jupiter is in the 2^nd house of earnings and Mars is in the 11^th house of great gains and they are both aspecting the stellium of planets in the 6^th house.

It is very obvious that his life direction, career, and earning are going to come from the 6^th house to service people in terms of providing music to the people. Shravana nakshatra deals strongly in the area of art and music that symbolizes an ear. Great creativity and music talent are bestowed here. He is very passionate in the area of music, loves to perform, and gains fame and great money from it. But sometimes he might be uncomfortable in his work emotionally.

Music Composer Career

Salzburg Court

In 1773 Venus/Rahu period where both Venus and Rahu disposits into the 6^th house of hard work. Mozart was employed as a court musician by the ruler of Salzburg. He had a large number of friends and admirers in Salzburg.

Paris Journey

In 1777-1778 Venus/Jupiter period, Transiting Saturn, Rahu, and Jupiter all took turn to aspect his 5^th house of creativity which is 8 houses of death away from his 10^th house of career which changes his job. Subsequently, Rahu and Jupiter took turns to aspect Venus which rules his 10^th house of career which gives him new career opportunity.

Mozart resign his position at Salzburg and ventured out in search of employment in Augsburg, Mannheim, Paris, and Munich. With his father’s help, he eventually was offered a post as court organist and concertmaster in Paris. Paris works include Piano Sonata No. 8 and Symphony No. 31.

Meeting with Emperor

In 1781 Venus/Saturn period where Saturn sits strongly in it’s own sign in 6^th house of work. In career chart, Saturn sits in exactly 10^th house of career. Jupiter rules the 10^th house of career sitting in 12^th house of foreign lands and Saturn aspects its own 12^th house. He was destined to achieved success in foreign lands.

Mozart’s opera Idomeneo achieved considerable success in Munich. He was subsequently summoned to Vienna at in the Archbishop Colloredo’s service. Mozart had a chance to meet the Austrian Emperor who eventually support his career substantially with commissions and a part-time position. He was however opposed by his own employer Archbishop Colloredo.

Further Acquaintances

In 1782-1786 the last of Venus period including Mercury and Ketu, Mercury as money planet will still generate money for him while Ketu gave him the opportunity to meet other unusual musical creative talents.

Mozart became acquainted with Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel and he also met Joseph Haydn and became friends.

Final Years

From 1786 Sun period, Sun as the soul and chart ruler is conjunct a powerful malefic Saturn in the 6^th house of health. Sun in the career chart rules the 6^th house of difficulty and sits in the 12^th house of isolation.

Despite the great success of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Mozart did little operatic writing. He focused instead on his career as a piano soloist and writer of concertos. Around 1786 he had ceased to appear frequently in public concerts, and his income shrank. This was a difficult time for musicians in Vienna because of the Austro-Turkish War. His final years in 1971 was a time of great productivity until his illness gave the last blow. He produced The Magic Flute, Clarinet Concerto K. 622, unfinished Requiem K. 626. He conducted the Magic Flute premiere in September, his health deteriorated in November, and he died in December.

Marriage and Children

Mozart has Ketu conjunct Venus as significator of wife in the 7^th house of marriage. Saturn as ruler of 7^th house of marriage sits in 6^th house of difficulty conjunct Sun which is it’s enemy but very strongly in Capricorn. Mozart interest was in Constanze in full name Maria Constanze Cäcilia Josepha Johanna Aloysia Mozart. The courtship did not go smoothly. A brief broke up occurred in 1782 involving jealousy when Constanze had permitted another young man to measure her calves in a parlor game. Mozart also had difficulty getting permission to marry Constanze from his father Leopold. The marriage occurred a day before his father’s consent arrived by mail.

Mozart has Mars aspecting Jupiter as ruler of 5^th house of children as well as significator of children. Malefic Mar and Rahu are also aspecting the 5^th house of children. In the destiny chart, Jupiter as significator of children sits in the 12^th house of losses. In the children chart, Jupiter ruling the 12^th house of losses and Mercury ruling the 6^th house of difficulties are aspecting the 5^th house of children. Sun ruling the 8^th house of death is opposing Venus which is the ruler of 5^th house of children. Even Rahu is aspecting the 5^th house. Mozart has 6 children of which only 2 survived infancy, Karl Thomas Mozart and Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart.

Constanze’s Fortune

Saturn ruling 7^th house of spouse is strong in it’s own Capricorn sign, but resides in 6^th house of debts. It is conjunct money (dhana) planet Mercury ruling 2^nd house of earnings and 11^th house of great gains. In marriage chart, Mars ruling 7^th house of spouse is strong in Sagittarius and it also rules 2^nd house of earnings. Mars is conjunct benefic Venus opposed by Sun ruling 11^th house of great gains and Mercury ruling 9^th house of fortune.

Mozart died in 1791 and left Constanze in a very difficult position in debt with 2 kids. With Constanze’s business skills put into use, she got a pension from the Emperor to embark on a campaign to publish her husband’s works. Constanze’s efforts made her wealthy and she sent Karl and Franz to Prague for musical education.
